Francesca Schiavone is a retired Italian tennis player who in 2010 became the first Italian woman to win a Grand Slam singles title, capturing the French Open. Known for her one-handed backhand, fighting spirit and flair on clay, she reached a career-high ranking of World No. 4 and helped Italy to multiple Fed Cup titles. Since retiring she has moved into coaching on the WTA Tour.
