Sansal publishes 'La Legende', a combative account of his Algerian imprisonment
On 2 June 2026 Boualem Sansal released 'La Legende' with Grasset, a roughly 250-page narrative revisiting his nearly year-long detention in Algeria. As reviewed by Belgian daily La Libre, the book describes a 'method for living with dignity in degradation' and reflects on time, freedom and human dignity, and includes remarks from his wife on his return home. The publication followed his move from longtime publisher Gallimard to Grasset.
