Anwar's coalition loses Negeri Sembilan state election, its second state defeat in weeks
The South China Morning Post reported that in the August 1, 2026 Negeri Sembilan state election, Anwar's Pakatan Harapan won just 11 of 36 seats, down from 17, while Barisan Nasional took 18 and Perikatan Nasional 7, giving the two rivals a combined supermajority to form the state government. The result followed a similar loss in Johor in July and, per SCMP, raised questions about Anwar's standing ahead of the next general election.
