Ahead of the re-release, Anil Kapoor told Variety India that he was initially not keen to lead 1942: A Love Story because he felt the role needed a younger actor, and that he suggested Bobby Deol and Aamir Khan. He said the songs already recorded by R.D. Burman changed his mind, because he could not let anyone else lip-sync to them. NDTV carried the same interview, in which Kapoor also praised Manisha Koirala as the emotional thread of the film.

The Hollywood Reporter India reported that Aamir Khan Productions has teamed with Kabir Khan Films and Australia's Mind Blowing Films on Silkyara 41, an Indo-Australian drama about the 17-day mission to save 41 workers trapped in Uttarakhand's Silkyara tunnel in 2023. Kabir Khan is set to direct from a script by Andrew Anastasios, with Aamir Khan producing.
