Nobel economist Abhijit Banerjee joins University of Zurich this summer
The University of Zurich reports that Banerjee and wife Esther Duflo joined its economics department in July 2026 to co-lead a new development, education and public policy center backed by a CHF 26 million Lemann Foundation gift. In a March 2026 UZH interview, the pair said they will keep part-time roles at MIT and continue leading the J-PAL poverty lab while building an evidence-to-policy pipeline with a focus on Brazil.
