Rajiv Gandhi is known as the sixth Prime Minister of India, in office from 1984 to 1989 and the youngest person to hold the post. He entered politics after a career as an Indian Airlines pilot and led the Indian National Congress, winning a record parliamentary majority in 1984. He was married to politician Sonia Gandhi and was assassinated by an LTTE suicide bomber in 1991.
